Meet Our Trainer
Petey Hausley is a Sergeant with the Appalachian State University Police Department. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Appalachian State University and completed his Basic Law Enforcement Training at Western Piedmont Community College. Petey began his career as a police officer in 2013 and became a K9 officer in 2015, partnered with his K9, Simba.
He is a certified K9 trainer, specializing in areas such as basic obedience, tracking, narcotics detection, and apprehension. Petey served as the K9 supervisor, running the K9 program for the Boone Police Department for three years before joining the Appalachian State University Police Department in 2022. Throughout his career, he has successfully trained numerous dogs, many of which have been certified and placed within police departments in the surrounding areas. Petey’s passion for and love of dogs has significantly contributed to his success in this field.
